De la calma a la marcha<\/h2>\n

Qui\u00e9n ir\u00e1 a suponer que, en el emplazamiento de una de las plazas m\u00e1s emblem\u00e1ticas de Barcelona, la Pla\u00e7a Reial, se encontraba el tranquilo convento de monjes capuchinos de Santa Madrona.\u00a0 Y qui\u00e9n hubiera dicho que esta obra realizada en 1848, por el arquitecto Daniel Molina en un equilibrado estilo neocl\u00e1sico ser\u00eda lo que es hoy: un lugar de encuentro de la Barcelona m\u00e1s marchosa.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Esta es una gran plaza al estilo de las europeas de la \u00e9poca pero no se construyeron en ella ni galer\u00edas comerciales ni teatros como en Par\u00eds o en Praga. El conjunto de sus edificios resulta bastante uniforme con una planta baja porticada y las fachadas adornadas con motivos de terracota cl\u00e1sicos, bustos de navegantes y de exploradores americanos y escudos soportados indios.<\/p>\n

Su construcci\u00f3n plantea una disposici\u00f3n singular de los elementos arquitect\u00f3nicos consiguiendo que la plaza parezca cuadrangular cuando en realidad es trapezoidal. El arquitecto acert\u00f3 dando cabida en su estructura a varios pasajes que conectan el espacio con las callejas del trazado medieval que hab\u00edan quedado cortadas por la plaza.<\/p>\n

Elementos decorativos: Gaud\u00ed nos ilumina<\/h2>\n

Los m\u00e1s observadores ver\u00e1n que sus farolas son muy originales. El motivo es que fueron dise\u00f1adas por un genio que a\u00fan no era muy conocido en ese momento: Antonio Gaud\u00ed.
Imitando el ramaje de un \u00e1rbol, con ese amor por las formas naturales que caracteriz\u00f3 al arquitecto, la farola se sostiene por un pie de m\u00e1rmol negro y, en el extremo superior, se pueden ver serpientes enredadas con los s\u00edmbolos del dios Mercurio protector del comercio, justo una de las actividades m\u00e1s importantes de Barcelona.
Este magn\u00edfico modelo ten\u00eda que haber sido el de todas las farolas de la ciudad. Pero eran demasiado caras as\u00ed que solo existen cinco ejemplares: dos en esta plaza y tres en Pla de Palau.<\/p>\n

Como veis, la presencia de las obras del arquitecto Gaud\u00ed<\/a> es un motivo recurrente en todos los barrios de la ciudad.<\/p>\n
