Bodegas, Shops and History of BarcelonaA foodie tour about History and Gastronomy
100% private tour
Let's start with some chocolate
Half Day Tour
Explore the Bodegas, discover gourmet shops and learn all about Barcelona
Do you know that Barcelona is over 2000 years old? How many products do you think can be made out of olives? The answers (and way more) in this foodie tour paired with the history of the city.
Here you have a stroll to discover the origin of Barcelona, its golden ages and the oldest stones to show we have in Barcelona (be ready to go back over 2000 years!). The Romans, the Casal de Barcelona, the Kingdom of Aragon or Cristopher Columbus are part of this fascinating itinerary to explore the Gótico.
The second main ingredient of this tour is food. While you enjoy the explanations of your local guide, some authentic, local run venues will help you to understand another main feature of our urban rituals: conversation around a good table filled with fantastic food.
In this tour you will:
- Taste the famous hot chocolate in a 1942 chocolate parlour.
- Taste a vermut and some traditional appetisers.
- Discover a whole world of tapas and beyond (Platillos) in an old Bodega.
- Learn our food traditions while visiting singular shops and all about the history of Barcelona in a friendly atmosphere.
Bodegas shops and history of Barcelona tour Step by Step
After meeting with the guide at your accommodation, you’ll head towards la Rambla, the popular entrance to the Old city. This is probably the most famous street in Barcelona and we’ll show you why, and of course, food has something to do with it. A hot chocolate in the famous Petritxol street will be the entrance to Barcelona’s food traditions.
After this first stop, be ready to discover the history of this fascinating city while walking around the Barrio Gótico (Gothic Quarter). The ancient roman city walls, the exterior of the Cathedral, Saint James Squate, the Old Jewish Quarter and the King Square are part of the route. We’ll end this History part with a vermut and some traditional appetisers.
Do you know that the vermut helps to open your appetite? This is the reason why after the vermut we will head towards a local Bodega to enjoy tapas and platillos such as Iberian ham, croquettes, esqueixada and cheese. Do not worry! We won’t forget the Pa amb tomàquet (bread with tomato)
Is the food included in the price?
Yes. The prices change according to the number of people in your party. We prefer to include food this way you know the final price. However, drinks and food won’t be ordered beforehand. Once you arrive to each venue, the guide will give you the options you have to choose what fits better your taste. One advice: be adventurous! We’re sure you’ll make amazing discoveries.
In the Food and History of Barcelona you will taste a hot chocolate with …… (fill the gap with churros, ensaimada, croissant, melindros. You’ll choose the day of the tour with your guide), a vermut (vermouth) with appetisers, a white and a red wine with tapas and platillos paired with the drinks. If your appetite is average, you won’t need to have lunch after the tour.
How do you select the venues to stop?
Eating and drinking! We go there (we never say we are guides), we eat, we drink, and we pay. And if we love it, we take travellers like you. Besides, we do not take any commission to take you there.
Which is the best hour to have this Food and History tour?
This is a morning tour. The itinerary has been designed to have the hot chocolate as a morning snack before the stroll around the gothic area to end with the vermut and the platillos at the bodegas. However, if you prefer this to be and afternoon tour, this can be arranged.

Hello! I have a question
Anna was great! She was informative without being boring, catered to our specific sight-seeing requests, and kept us fully enlightened and entertained. How this woman has so much knowledge, I don’t know! She literally had the answer to every single question we had. We stopped for a coffee mid-way as she could sense we were getting tired from walking and I enjoyed chatting to her socially. I 100% recommend her for anyone going to Barcelona!
We engaged Anna for a 3 days private tour in Barcelona. She is very dedicated and knowledgeable on every places of interest in Barcelona. When my child wasn’t feeling too well during the trip, she was flexible and accommodative to our last minute changes and requests. My family truly enjoyed our trip in Barcelona and had a wonderful time spent with Anna. If you are looking for customized private tour, Anna will be the best person to engage!!
We concur with all the previous wonderful reviews of Anna and her team. We ended up having three tours with Anna and each one was different, informative and superb. If you would prefer to soak in the city and keep your nose out of the guide books and maps contact Barcelonina. Our trip to Spain had been derailed but once we contacted Jordi, everything started to improve. These folks have it together, make great suggestions on what to do and are patient with letting you make up your mind. Barcelona would not have been nearly as fascinating without them.
