Did you know that Barcelona is a city with two thousand years of history?

That we still trample on the same streets traced by the Romans?

We propose you a journey through the history of Barcelona while listening old stones. Because sometimes, those stones speak up.

The Gothic Quarter in Barcelona has a special atmosphere thanks to its narrow, labyrinthine streets, historic buildings and quiet squares that offer us charming places to get wonderfully lost. You will immerse yourself in history while admiring the remains of Roman Barcelona, while deciphering the facade of the Cathedral and walking through the old Jewish quarter. Place Saint-Jacques, the political center of Barcelona, is the last highlight of this first part of the tour.

Once the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona explored, you will discover the Ribera district (or Born) with its medieval center located on Montcada Street. Following this path, you will reach Santa Maria del Mar.

What will we see on Barcelona’s Gothic Area?

Firstly, you will meet your local guide at your accommodation in order to go together to the old Barcelona. If your accommodation is near downtown, you will just walk there, otherwise, a short subway ride will take you there. This is where the visit begins. If you prefer, you can meet the guide in La Rambla, in order to maximise the tour.

The old Roman walls will welcome you to the oldest part of Barcelona. In fact, the Gothic Quarter actually has medieval elements and Roman elements. In this context, along with the help of your expert private guide, you will trace the footprints of both eras.

The neo-Gothic facade of the Cathedral, its Romanesque chapel and Gothic apse will reveal the importance of religious power in the Middle Ages. Then, a walk through the stone streets will take you to King’s Square, where the civil power was located. Anecdotes about queens, sculptors and the very Christopher Columbus, are part of the stories to understand that period of time.

It was not a ghetto because there were Christians living or trading in the same place. Until when did the good friendliness last? Take the tour and discover it!

Finally, the last part of the visit of the Gothic Barcelona is a walk through the Ribera Quarter, also known as “Born”. The Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar and Montcada Street Palaces, which today house the Picasso Museum and, are the icing cake for this route.

Are you on a cruise-ship?

In this case, the meeting point would be at the Pier. The guide will wait for you at the exit of the ship holding a sign with your name on it. Once meeting the guide, you will take a taxi towards the Rambla, where your tour will start.

Anna was great! She was informative without being boring, catered to our specific sight-seeing requests, and kept us fully enlightened and entertained. How this woman has so much knowledge, I don’t know! She literally had the answer to every single question we had. We stopped for a coffee mid-way as she could sense we were getting tired from walking and I enjoyed chatting to her socially. I 100% recommend her for anyone going to Barcelona!

We engaged Anna for a 3 days private tour in Barcelona. She is very dedicated and knowledgeable on every places of interest in Barcelona. When my child wasn’t feeling too well during the trip, she was flexible and accommodative to our last minute changes and requests. My family truly enjoyed our trip in Barcelona and had a wonderful time spent with Anna. If you are looking for customized private tour, Anna will be the best person to engage!!

We concur with all the previous wonderful reviews of Anna and her team. We ended up having three tours with Anna and each one was different, informative and superb. If you would prefer to soak in the city and keep your nose out of the guide books and maps contact Barcelonina. Our trip to Spain had been derailed but once we contacted Jordi, everything started to improve. These folks have it together, make great suggestions on what to do and are patient with letting you make up your mind. Barcelona would not have been nearly as fascinating without them.
